Am I Too Old for runDisney? My Honest Answer (Over 50 Runner)
Be honest… have you ever asked yourself:
“Am I too old for runDisney?”
If you’re over 50 and thinking about running your first Disney race, I want you to know—you are not alone. I asked myself that same question, and for a while, it almost stopped me from even trying.
But here I am now. I’ve run a runDisney race… and I’m training for more.
So let me give you the honest answer I wish someone had given me.
The Thought That Almost Stopped Me
Before I ever signed up, the doubts were loud.
I told myself:
- I’m too old
- I’m too slow
- I don’t look like a runner
- What if I can’t finish?
And maybe you’re thinking the same thing right now.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
👉 Those thoughts don’t mean you shouldn’t do it.
👉 They mean you’re about to do something that matters.
What runDisney Is REALLY Like
runDisney is not just a race—it’s an experience.
Yes, there are magical moments.
Yes, there are characters and cheering crowds.
But there are also things no one talks about:
- Waking up at 2:00 AM
- Long waits in corrals
- Nerves before the start
- Questioning your life choices mid-race
And yet…
It’s one of the most emotional, empowering things I’ve ever done.
Running Over 50 Looks Different (And That’s a Good Thing)
Let’s be honest—training in your 50s is not the same as training in your 20s.
You might need:
- More recovery days
- A slower pace
- Flexibility in your schedule
And that’s not failure—that’s experience.
You’re not trying to prove anything to anyone else.
You’re proving something to yourself.
You Don’t Have to Be Fast
This is where so many people get stuck.
They think:
👉 “I have to run the whole thing”
👉 “I’ll be the slowest one there”
Truth?
There are walkers.
There are beginners.
There are people doing their very first race.
runDisney is one of the most inclusive race environments you’ll ever find.
My Biggest Lesson
The hardest part wasn’t the race.
It wasn’t the miles.
It wasn’t the training.
👉 It was deciding I was allowed to try.
Once I got past that… everything else became possible.
So… Are You Too Old for runDisney?
Here’s my honest answer:
👉 No. You are not too old.
But you do need:
- A simple plan
- Real expectations
- The willingness to start before you feel ready
If This Is on Your Heart, Don’t Ignore It
If you’ve been thinking about runDisney…
If you’ve been wondering “what if…”
Take this as your sign.
Start walking.
Start training.
Start believing this could be for you.
