runDisney Expo Survival Guide (Don’t Get Overwhelmed)

Walking into the expo during a runDisney weekend can feel like instant overwhelm—especially if you go on the first day.

The crowds are unreal.
The noise level is loud.
And there are people everywhere—cast members, vendors, runners, supporters… just so many people.

And if it’s your first time?
You have no idea where to go.

👉 Instant overwhelm.

You might be wondering:

  • What do I do first?
  • What can I NOT miss?
  • Do I have to do everything today?

Let’s simplify this.

I’m going to walk you through what you actually need to do—and what you can skip—so you can survive the expo without draining all your energy before race day.

What the runDisney Expo Actually Is (And Why It Feels Like A Lot)

The runDisney Expo has a few main parts:

  • Bib pickup
  • Shirt pickup
  • Vendors
  • Disney merchandise

Plus a few extras like food vendors and photo ops.

So why does it feel like so much?

  • There’s no clear flow
  • Multiple buildings with unclear signage
  • And a LOT of people… all feeling just like you

I’ll be honest—sometimes I just follow the crowd and hope for the best.

So far, I’ve always come out with my bib, shirts… and somehow a raincoat, a beer, and a pretzel. Don’t ask. 😄

What You ACTUALLY Need To Do (Non-Negotiables)

Let’s calm this down right now.

👉 You really only NEED one thing: your bib

Here’s what to do:

  • Bring your check-in pass (from runDisney email)
  • Bring a valid ID
  • Find your race section (organized by bib number)
  • Get in the correct line

And if all of this feels confusing—don’t worry.

There are cast members everywhere, and they are incredibly helpful. Just ask.

Once you find the right building, you’re good.

Typically, bib pickup is in the building on the far left—but this can change. So if you don’t see clear signage, don’t stress.

👉 Just ask a cast member. They will point you exactly where you need to go.

Once you have your bib—you’re good.

💡 Your corral letter will be printed on your bib.

What I Recommend You Do Next

Go grab your race shirt.

  • Shirts are in a separate building
  • You’ll walk through vendors to get to where they are (yes, on purpose 😄)
  • Shirts are organized by race (5K, 10K, Half, etc.)
  • You’ll tear off the tab from your bib

👉 Keep the clear bag they give you—you may need it for gear check.

Once you have your bib and shirt…

👉 You can leave. Seriously.

What You Can Skip (Yes, Really)

This is where most people get overwhelmed.

You do NOT need to:

  • Visit every vendor
  • Buy everything
  • Stay for hours

What I do instead:

  • Quick walk-through
  • Make mental notes of anything I might want
  • Leave

The first day is the most crowded.

You can come back later—and it’s MUCH calmer.

Honestly?
After I get my bib and shirt, I usually just want to head straight for the exit.

Disney Merch Strategy (This Is Where People Panic)

Disney merchandise is in a separate building—and this is where people stress.

  • There’s often a virtual queue on day one
  • You need to be there early for popular items

But here’s my honest take:

👉 Nothing is worth stressing yourself out before your race.

If I don’t get it, I don’t get it.

And honestly?
Most of the time, I don’t even buy anything.

My Honest runDisney Expo Routine (What I Do Now)

Here’s exactly how I handle the expo now:

  1. Get my bib
  2. Get my shirt
  3. Do a quick walk-through
  4. Leave
  5. Come back later if I feel like it

Before my first race, I’m already nervous. The expo just adds to it.

I actually enjoy it MUCH more after I’ve run.

Mistakes I Made My First Expo (So You Don’t Have To)

My first time?

I thought I had to do everything.

  • Every vendor
  • Every merch display
  • Everything all at once

By the time I left, I was overwhelmed—and didn’t even remember half of it.

Tips and Hidden Gems

  • Check expo hours ahead of time
  • Plan to go more than once if needed
  • Check into your resort first (use Disney transportation)
  • Save photo ops for a quieter time
  • Bring your medals back for photos later (so worth it!)

Final Thoughts – You Don’t Have To Do It All

The expo is NOT the main event.

👉 The race is.

Protect your energy. Protect your peace.

If you’re already nervous, this environment can be a lot—and that’s okay.

Do what you need to do… and then go relax.

You’ve got this.
