At some point, I went from
“this sounds fun”
to
“what did I just sign up for?”
If you’re training for your first runDisney race, you’re probably excited… and maybe a little overwhelmed.
I get it—because I was right there too.
Here’s what I wish I knew before my first runDisney race—the stuff no one really tells you, but makes a huge difference on race weekend.
The Wake-Up Time Is No Joke 😴
Let’s start here—because this one is a shock.
runDisney race mornings start very early. Like 2:30–3:00 AM early.
Between transportation, security, and walking to your corral, you cannot roll out of bed last minute.
👉 Beginner tip:
Lay out everything the night before—your outfit, bib, shoes, fuel. Your half-asleep self will thank you.
Disney Transportation Is Part of Race Day 🚍
If you’re staying on Disney property for race weekend, you’ll likely use Disney buses to get to the start line.
They run early—but so does everyone else.
👉 runDisney tip:
Give yourself extra time. Lines can get long, and race morning is not the time to feel rushed.
Understanding Corrals (Before You Get There) 😅
runDisney uses a corral system to stagger runners and walkers.
Sounds simple—but in reality, there’s a lot of walking, waiting, and wondering if you’re in the right place.
👉 What to know:
- You may wait a while before your start
- Corrals can be far from the entrance
- Knowing your corral ahead of time helps avoid stress
You Don’t Have to Run the Whole Race 👟
This is one of the biggest fears for beginners.
You do NOT have to run the entire race.
runDisney events allow for a run/walk approach, as long as you maintain the required pace.
👉 Beginner-friendly truth:
Walking intervals are normal—and smart. Many runners use them to finish strong.
runDisney Races Are About the Experience ✨
This isn’t your typical race.
You’ll see:
- Disney characters along the course
- Entertainment and music
- Cast members cheering you on
- Fireworks at the start
👉 What I wish I knew:
Slow down and enjoy it. Take photos. This race is about more than your finish time.
Crossing the Finish Line Hits Different 💜
There’s just something about a runDisney finish line.
Maybe it’s the early mornings.
Maybe it’s the training.
Maybe it’s proving to yourself that you can do hard things.
👉 Real talk:
You will feel prouder than you expect.
Final Thoughts for First-Time runDisney Runners
If you’re wondering whether you can really do a runDisney race…
You can.
You don’t have to be fast.
You don’t have to be perfect.
And you are definitely not too old.
You just have to start.
